Yes, it's just a question of how much collateral damage you're willing to accept. smile

This is no different from IRC servers or other common areas of attack. When the client application doesn't help you (i.e. hidden data that's unique to that client), your only option is to ban parts of the ISP's address space that you hope is likely to be used by that user.

Consider the following case

AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD is an IP I want to ban, I would ban by rcon addip AAA.BBB.CCC ommiting the DDD if the guys ip is dynamic. This method would work but the next time the same guy connects, he has a different ip,
AAA.BBB.JJJ.RRR a total different ip from the one i have banned, what can I do next?

rcon addip AAA.BBB ? I could never do that.

HairBall, what would you suggest to do then?

maybe to do addip AAA.BBB.AAA, AAA.BBB.AAB, AAA.BBB.AAC, AAA.BBB.AAD, AAA.BBB.AAE ............................ to AAA.BBB.ZZZ????? hahahaha but anyways is a good idea, how many IP's can u ban? if its unlimited then u can make an excel sheet to do what I suggested, that should make it faster.

I just said what came to my mind first tongue tongue tongue tongue bag

Alma, I'll email you with the details. The forum said my post was too long and I'm not breaking it up into multiple parts. It wasn't even that long!

By the way, ioquake3 added CIDR support (which you need to effectively ban).
http://svn.icculus.org/quake3/trunk/README?revision=1560&view=markup

Code

banaddr <range>         - ban an ip address range from joining a game on this
server, valid <range> is either playernum or CIDR
                             notation address range.
exceptaddr <range>      - exempt an ip address range from a ban.
bandel <range>          - delete ban (either range or ban number)
exceptdel <range>       - delete exception (either range or exception number)

I´ll take a look into this documentation, HB. I hope all of this info can be useful in an OA server.
